While the book club brings the fire, the retreats tuck you in.
Herstory Retreats are for women who need more than a weekend away… they need permission to stop. To exhale. To remember what it feels like to read a whole chapter without interruption, sleep until they’re actually rested, and talk to women who don’t need the context explained.
You can expect…
Quiet mornings with nowhere to be… sleep in, journal, take your coffee straight back to bed. Nobody’s judging.
Seasonal and themed activities that are as unhinged as we are: book-themed cocktail parties, art workshops with local artists, star-lit jacuzzi dips, and meandering wanders with no agenda.
Cosy corners built for reading, napping, and the kind of conversation that runs well past midnight.
Evening communal cooking pizza oven bakes, dancing in the kitchen, new friends who feel like old ones. And when numbers allow? We hang up the aprons entirely and let someone else do the feeding.
Fires, wine (two glasses, three, no one’s counting), and the particular magic of women sitting together after dark, telling the truth, laughing too loud, and not apologising for either.
Who is this for?
Women who are tired. Women who are angry. Women who are both at once and need somewhere safe to put it down for a few days.
Women who love books, or want to love them again. Women who’ve spent years making space for everyone else and are ready to take up some of their own.
All women are welcome here. Our trans sisters included. Come exactly as you are.
This is not a wellness retreat. There’s no cold water therapy, no 5am yoga, no toxic positivity. Just rest, honesty, good books, and women who don’t need the patriarchy explained to them.

Lake District: Reading Retreats
Every Herstory Retreat is different. That’s the point.
We don’t do the same weekend twice. Each retreat is shaped by the season, the setting, and the particular magic of the women who show up.
One weekend you might find yourself in a candlelit fell cottage in deep autumn, walking moorland in the morning and watching Practical Magic by firelight at night. Another might tuck you into a Georgian manor house where we play out a world the 1900s never gave us matriarchal, bookish, and entirely free of men. Or perhaps a February cottage with an eccentric soul, a cinema room, a hot tub, and a love yourself art workshop because Valentine’s Day belongs to you too.
What stays the same across all of them:
Good books. Good women. Spaces that feel nothing like your ordinary life.
Local artists, healers, and makers woven into the weekend. Fires, cocktails, conversations that go places you didn’t expect. Rest that actually restores you.
We find the venues most people never hear about. We bring the community. You bring yourself.
